FRP or Aluminium? 3 questions decide.

Question 1 / 3

Will you work near live electricity?

Panels, substations, transformers, overhead lines — any energised equipment above 50 V AC.

Safe climbing technique

Always 3 points of contact. Here's how.

3-POINT CONTACT ✓ Hand + 2 feet · stable
CORRECT · 3-POINT CONTACT

One hand + two feet

Always keep three points of contact — one hand on a rail OR rung, both feet planted on a step. Move one limb at a time. Never two hands + one foot; never two feet + no hands.

2-POINT ONLY ✗ Both hands on tools · unstable
WRONG · 2-POINT ONLY

Both hands on tools

Carrying tools in both hands breaks 3-point contact — if you slip, no hand is free to grab the rail. A common cause of fall incidents. Never climb with tools in both hands.

TOOL TRAY · 3T KEPT ✓ Hand-in-tray = still 3-point
BETTER · TOOL TRAY

Use the integrated tray

Y Group's integrated tool tray keeps tools within reach while you keep one hand on a rail. Reach into the tray = still 3-point contact. This is why every FRP Single Side ships with one standard.

Where FRP Single Side earns its keep

6 sites where non-conductive ladders matter.

bolt Power & Utilities

Live Electrical Panel

Substation maintenance, MCC cabinets, distribution boards. Non-conductive FRP rails eliminate shock risk. ERDA-tested 62 kV dry / 40 kV wet.

science Process Industry

Chemical Plant

Acid handling, solvent rooms, reactor vessels. FRP's 7-layer composite resists corrosion where aluminium oxidises in weeks.

warehouse Logistics & 3PL

Warehouse Racking

Pick-tower access, stock rotation, rack lighting. Lightweight enough to move between aisles. Integrated tool tray for scanners.

domain IT Infrastructure

Data Centre

Overhead cable trays, rack-top patching, HVAC duct access. Non-conductive safety in case of electrical proximity.

factory Manufacturing

Factory Maintenance

Overhead conveyor servicing, lighting change-outs, panel inspection. 300 mm step pitch for repeated climbs without fatigue.

paint Construction & Fitout

Paint Booth & Fitout

Ceiling painting, signage install, interior finishing. Anti-skid rubber shoes grip dust-sheet and drop-cloth surfaces.

Frequently Asked

Before you request a quote.

Common questions buyers ask about FRP Single Side before specifying it for their site. Click any question to expand.

Can I use FRP Single Side near live electrical equipment?

add
Yes. FRP Single Side is ERDA-certified under IEC 60060-1:2010. The ladder withstood 62 kVrms dry power-frequency voltage and 40 kVrms wet power-frequency voltage across 300 mm between two steps, for 1 minute each. Safe for live panel work, substation maintenance, and overhead-line servicing. Test was conducted on a 5-step representative sample (item 8303); all sizes share the same 7-layer FRP composite construction.

How does FRP compare to aluminium on weight?

add
Per Y Group's published leaflet, FRP Single Side and Aluminium Single Side share identical weights and dimensions at each size (e.g. both 6-step = 8.85 kg, both 14-step = 20 kg). Choose material on environment — non-conductivity and chemical resistance for FRP, cost and general-trade fit for aluminium — not on weight.

What is the maximum reach at each size?

add
Direct from the Y Group 'A' Type Single Side leaflet (manufacturer-published Max Reach, in millimetres): 2-step 1800 mm · 3-step 1800 mm · 4-step 2100 mm · 5-step 2400 mm · 6-step 2700 mm · 7-step 2950 mm · 8-step 3200 mm · 10-step 3460 mm · 12-step 4330 mm · 14-step 4920 mm. Use the Reach Calculator above to pick the right size for your target height.

Does FRP degrade in sunlight or outdoor exposure?

add
No. Outer gel coat layer (Layer 7 in the composite) contains UV inhibitors that prevent resin breakdown. Expected outdoor service life is 10+ years with minimal colour fade. Indoor use extends this further.

What certifications does FRP Single Side Ladder hold?

add
EN 131 — European ladder safety standard (on Y Group leaflet). ERDA electrical safety certification — conducted per IEC 60060-1:2010 by Electrical Research and Development Association (Vadodara), an NABL- and ILAC-MRA-accredited lab. Dry-test withstand: 62 kVrms. Wet-test withstand: 40 kVrms. Rated load: 150 kg across all sizes. Tested on 5-step representative sample (8303); the 7-layer FRP composite construction is shared across all sizes.

How do I know which size to pick?

add
Use the interactive Reach Calculator above — enter your target reach height (in mm) and it cross-references the Y Group leaflet's Max Reach column to recommend the smallest SKU that clears your target. Rule of thumb: pick the smallest size whose published Max Reach exceeds your working height by at least 300 mm for comfortable clearance.
